What Is Bioheat®?
Bioheat® is an environmentally-friendly home heating oil that provides burns cleaner than standard home heating oil while utilizing materials that would otherwise go to waste. Bioheat® is a renewable fuel produced in the United States and helps reduce dependency on foreign fuel supplies.
Bioheat® is comprised of traditional home heating oil blended with Biodiesel, a recyclable, renewable fuel made by blending standard diesel oil and vegetable oils, animal fat, recycled restaurant grease, or even algae oil, materials which restaurants would otherwise discard. Standard Bioheat® oil is typically comprised of 2-5% Biodiesel. Bioheat® with 2% Biodiesel is designated B2, Bioheat® with 5% Biodiesel is B5, and so forth.
Biodiesel is produced from various renewable resources, such as plant oils, animal fats, recycled grease, and even algae oil, making it one of the most sustainable fuels on the planet. Biodiesel doesn’t sacrifice food for fuel or drive up crop costs like ethanol. Nearly half of Biodiesel is produced from soybean oil and 14% from corn, derived from high-nutrient livestock feed and is an ethanol production co-product. Oils and fats for Biodiesel are a secondary by-product of producing high-protein feed (soybean meal) and quality meats.
