How Heated Driveways Work
When you call Tragar to install your heated driveway system we’ll send a crew over to transform your walkways. We’ll build what’s known as a hydronic radiant heat system. The system is made up of PEX tubing, which is made of cross-linked polyethylene. This tubing is installed to coil across your driveways and walkways and they will operate in a continuous loop with tubes running both into and out of your home.
The tubing is filled with a mixture of water and an anti-freeze known as Glycol. The mixture of these liquids will run in a circuit starting in your home, going through your driveway and then returning back into your home. Glycol will prevent the water from freezing at temperatures as low as 40 degrees below zero, even if your system is turned off. If you leave your home for a trip, you don’t have to worry about the tubes freezing while you’re away.
When you do return, you can turn the system on and the water will heat up and melt any snow or ice on your driveway. The melted snow will go into a drainage system and you’ll be ready to get in your car and go to work, school or wherever you need to get to. All you have to do is flip a switch and you’re ready to go.
