Winter Energy Efficiency Tips

Person turning up the heat on thermostat
We’ve reached the height of winter and there are plenty of ways to stay warm while saving money. US News and World Report suggests:

  • Keep your home cooler at night or when you’re not home.
  • By keeping your thermostat 10 to 15 degrees lower for eight hours can save you about 10 percent on your heating bills.
  • Turn down the heat and wear layers to stay warm.
  • A great way to keep things warm when you’re home without wasting energy when you’re not home or asleep is to have a smart thermostat like the Lennox IComfort® Smart Thermostat available from Tragar.

Year Round Energy Efficiency

There are steps you can take towards being energy efficient all year round. One way to do it is to keep your furnace maintained. Tragar can do annual checkups on both heating and air conditioning to keep them running efficiently. Another thing you should do is make certain you seal common air leaks and maintain proper insulation in your home, according to ENERGYSTAR. One place you need to look in is your attic, where you need to make sure there’s enough insulation and that your vents aren’t blocked. You should also feel for air coming in from under your doors and consider installing a door sweep to prevent cold air from coming in during the winter. This will also help with keeping warm air out of your home in the summer.
