Get Your Gas from an Oil Company

October 20, 2014 by Dennis Traina

Get Natural Gas from Long Island Oil Company
Why It Makes Sense to Get Your Gas from an Oil Company

Thanks to recent deregulation of the natural gas industry, homeowners who have gas heating systems in their homes can opt to receive their natural gas from an energy service company, or ESCO.
“Changes in these markets have provided an opportunity for consumers to choose their supplier of energy,” according to AskPSC.com, the New York State Public Service Commission’s consumer website.
As a result, Long Island homeowners can really benefit by switching natural gas suppliers, in this case from receiving natural gas from National Grid to an ESCO like Tragar Oil, your Long Island green energy company.

First and foremost, why it makes sense to get your gas from an oil company like Tragar – which is an ESCO that can purchase and sell natural gas – is that homeowners will find that instead of paying full price to National Grid, they can pay less for their natural gas.
This is because our ESCO has a strong relationship with a variety of natural gas suppliers across the country enabling us to help you save money. As an ESCO we can also eliminate many of the costs charged by utilities and pass along those savings to you. Savings can be in the range of five to 12 percent compared to what you are paying now.
Homeowners can rest assured, however, that by switching natural gas suppliers the only things that change are the new, lower price they’ll pay and our ESCO name appearing on their bills as the company selling them their gas.
Homeowners’ gas bills and service stay the same because an ESCO is not your local distribution utility (in this case National Grid) and neither owns nor operates the distribution and transmission systems that deliver energy to homes and businesses. Thus, homeowners can rest easy knowing:

  • National Grid still delivers your gas.
  • National Grid still services your gas emergencies.
  • National Grid still maintains your gas lines.
  • You still receive only one bill, from National Grid.
  • It doesn’t cost anything to switch to an ESCO like Tragar.
  • There isn’t any paperwork to switch, other than your approval.
  • You can switch back to National Grid at any time, (unless you choose to sign a long-term commitment with us).
  • You only pay National Grid.
  • You will even get a letter from National Grid, thanking you for using an ESCO, and National Grid will repeat all of the same non-commitment, ease-of-use information.

In addition, homeowners should know there are guidelines set up by New York State that an ESCO has to meet and follow in order to become an ESCO. In fact, according to AskPSC.com, “In order for an ESCO to sell energy in New York State, the NYS Department of Public Service requires the company to go through an application process and be deemed eligible to serve NYS customers.”
Tragar Oil is also more than just a natural gas supplier. Unlike National Grid, we not only supply your gas, but also service and upgrade your equipment and help non-gas customers with oil to gas conversions. Homeowners who switch to Tragar Oil for their natural gas supply also have the option of signing up for a gas heating service contract.
So be sure to contact Tragar today to learn more about receiving your natural gas supply from us, as well as to set an annual inspection and cleaning for oil and gas heating systems.
Our green energy experts can answer any questions, or even discuss a home energy audit, the installation of new heating equipment, oil-to-gas conversion, Bioheat®, radiant heating, heat pumps and water heaters. Be sure to inquire about our no-obligation, free estimate for heating, hot water and air conditioning equipment upgrades.
