Converting Your Home Heating to Natural Gas with Tragar Home Services
If you’re a homeowner thinking of making the switch to gas heat, you’ve probably seen a lot of advertising and literature about oil to gas conversion. All of the talks out there may be confusing and if you’re considering the switch or just interested in understanding the ins and outs of a conversion, Tragar Home Services wants to help.

We’re experts in helping Long Island homeowners convert from oil heat to gas and if you make the change, we’ll be with you every step of the way. So we want to tell you about the conversion process and how Tragar Home Services can help it all go smoothly.

Oil Heat To Gas Heat Conversion Process

The first thing you need to know if you’re converting to gas heat is whether or not your home is in an area where natural gas heat is available. According to National Grid, you need to determine how far you are away from the gas line. National Grid will install up to 100 feet of main for free, as well as up to 100 feet of line from the meter location to the street.

If you need an additional gas line, talk to Tragar. We’ll help you put together your entire conversion project and explain it to you step by step. We’ll also take care of any permits you might need in Nassau or Suffolk County related to the installation of line.

Once the line is taken care of, you’ll need to make sure the rest of the job is done right. Tragar Home Services will assign you a home energy expert who will explain the next steps. We offer a variety of gas boiler and water heater options and we’ll install state-of-the-art high energy efficient heating and boiling equipment. We’ll also take care of installing a new chimney liner if you need it.

Another issue that’s critical when you’re converting from oil to gas heat are laws related to oil tank abandonment or removal. Both Nassau County and Suffolk County have laws related to disposal of fuel oil tanks. There are forms that need to be filled out and policies to follow, particularly if you still have an old underground tank. Tragar Home Services can make sure everything is done properly. We’ll make sure the former tank is removed or that the abandonment is properly documented.

Tragar Home Services Helps You Every Step of the Way

We also want you to know that you can save money when you make an oil heat to gas heat conversion. National Grid offers rebates to customers on equipment installation as well as energy efficiency rebates. The total rebates can range from $120 to more than $1,400 in total but remember you’ll save on utility bills as well once the equipment is installed. Tragar can help you take advantage of available rebates and any warranty issues. We’ll also be there if you have a heating emergency.

Tragar Home Services are your heating experts, we’ve been in the business for more than 60 years and we offer 5-star service. If you’re converting from oil to gas, one call does it all! Contact Tragar today!
