Summer on Long Island can be very hot and humid, so now’s the perfect time to start thinking about cleaning and getting your ductless air conditioning ready before the dog days arrive.
If you have a ductless air conditioning system installed at your home, then you know some of the benefits of ductless AC: separate zones for cooling different areas of your home including:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Design flexibility in terms of where to install the units
  • Quiet
  • Programmable remote operation

Tips to Maintain Your System For The Summer

  1. Keep The AC Unit Clean
  2. Cleaning each unit about once a week will prevent dirt from entering the system and decreasing the performance. Wipe down the interior and exterior. Ensure the coils look clean and, if necessary, dispose of any sitting moisture or water.

  3. Clean or Replace Filters
  4. Each unit has a filter or two that help clean the air it pumps back into the room. The filter also keeps the inside of the unit clean. So proper cleaning of each unit’s filter about every two to four weeks, or seasonal replacement (sometimes required), will help each unit function optimally, extend the life of each unit and ensure cleaner air for you and your family.

  5. Clean The Compressor
  6. To prevent the compressor from breaking down and causing the whole system to not work, make sure the compressor is kept clean and free from leaves and debris. Doing that about once a week will ensure the compressor continues to function properly.

  7. Keep The Pipes Clean
  8. The pipes connecting the main AC unit to the compressor need to be free of obstruction; otherwise, it could affect performance.

All of these tips will help you prep your ductless air conditioning system for summer, as well as maintain it. They’ll also help the system run quieter for longer. You can also follow these tips in the fall if your system includes a heat pump. Having a service plan in place is also helpful when preparing your system for the season and maintaining it long term. Today’s modern ductless air conditioning systems also provide high SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) ratings. However, the cooling system must be in good working condition to produce those high seasonal energy efficiency ratings.
