Why You Need a Nest Smart Thermostat by Tragar Home Services
When you’re looking to save money on your heating bills, it’s important to conserve energy, but it’s also very important to make sure your home is as energy efficient as possible. One way to do that is to order a smart thermostat like the Nest Wireless Thermostat, available form Tragar Home Services. Modern thermostats can do so much more than what traditional thermostats have done in the past, so if your home’s thermostat hasn’t been upgraded for a while, Tragar would like to tell you about some of the advantages of the Nest smart thermostat and let you know why this technology may be right for you.

Regular Thermostats vs. Smart Thermostats

Before there were smart thermostats, your home’s thermostat simply served as a control panel for heating and air conditioning systems, according to the website Life Hacker. You’d set whatever temperature you want and you’d have to go back again and adjust the settings any time you wanted to raise or lower it.
With smart thermostats, you’ll have a device that learns your living habits. It will record what time you leave home for work and when you return and adjust the climate inside your home depending on the season, so you’ll be comfortable when you get home.

How The Nest Thermostat Works

Consumer Reports says that “by tailoring your air conditioning (or heating) to your schedule, programmable thermostats can save both energy and money.”  The consumer magazine did stress that the thermostats should be programmed correctly.
That’s why a smart thermostat like Nest can be so helpful. The Nest Thermostat learns your habits. So if you go to bed at 11 p.m. and turn down your thermostat at that time, the Nest thermostat will start to schedule the lower temperature. If you wake up at 7 a.m. and turn the heat up for a few days in a row, it will record that too. If you leave for work an hour later, the Nest will learn to lower the temperature again and raise it when you return home.
The result is energy efficiency and Nest has the numbers to show you why. They commissioned a study in 2015 of 1,500 customers in 41 states who installed Nest thermostats, according to Wired Magazine. The study looked at the customers’ energy bills over the previous two years, dating back to 2013. During that time, Nest Thermostat customers saved between 10 and 12 percent on their heating bills and 15 percent on their air conditioning bills, according to Wired.
In terms of saving money, the study indicated that the average customer saved between $131 and $145 a year. These savings would pay for the cost of the thermostat in under two years. Two other independent studies confirmed Nest’s findings, the company says.
