Among the most obvious reasons for why you should install an air conditioning system is keeping cool as temperatures rise.
However, at Long Island cooling company Tragar Oil, our experts can tell you there are many benefits to installing either central air conditioning or ductless air conditioning.

For starters, properly installed air conditioning systems – whether they’re central or ductless – can be very energy-efficient, when sized properly by air conditioning professionals, and environmentally friendly, since, according to the US EPA, AC manufacturers have been steadily phasing out the hyrdochlorofluorcarbon (HCFC) known as R-22, an ozone-destroying greenhouse gas.
AC systems, versus window AC units, also provide more consistent temperatures and humidity control. Plus, AC systems provide better indoor air quality, with their ability to ventilate stale indoor air, zap airborne germs, trap particles and control humidity to limit mold and mildew growth. It’s also safer for people – especially elderly relatives, children, and pets – to be in an evenly cooled home as temperatures spike.
In addition, AC systems give you back the natural light window units take away.
Now, there are differences between central AC systems and ductless AC systems.
Central ACs circulate air through a network of ductwork to provide cooling, ventilation, heating (if using a heat pump) and humidity control. They’re either split systems or packaged units. Split system air conditioners have two different parts. One is an indoor unit that combines with an air handler or furnace. The other is an outdoor unit that has a compressor and condenser coil. When these parts are properly synchronized, the whole system runs very efficiently.
However, you not only need cold air in every room, but also cold air for the right amount of time to remove the humid air. This is a science that we, at Tragar, take very seriously.
We know evaluating a home is more than getting ductwork into every room. It’s the completion of mathematical formulas to ensure your home cools properly. Our experts can talk you through the process, and tell you all you need to know about our TempStar central air products.
Ductless AC operates similarly to its ducted air conditioning cousin and creates a comfortable home environment. However, where central AC cools an entire home through the ductwork in each room, ductless only strategically cools the rooms or areas where a separate, smaller air handler is installed on the wall or in the ceiling.
The condenser that converts the warm air in your home to cool air works the same in both systems, but they are considerably smaller and quieter when used with a ductless system.
At Tragar our Fujitsu units can be installed in various combinations. Several ductless wall units can run from one outside condenser. The wall units are stylish, slim enclosures and are installed on interior walls over windows or doors, or even in the ceiling. One great advantage of ductless AC is the design flexibility; another is the ability to create separate cooling zones in a home.
For both central and ductless ACs, federal laws now require greater efficiency than even a decade ago, which ultimately helps consumers. For central and ductless ACs the seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will indicate how efficient a system should be.
But, even with the best SEER, it can cost you hundreds more to operate if your equipment is not sized correctly.
At Tragar, whether it’s for central or ductless, we begin by coming to measure the heat loss in your home, and quickly provide you with an estimate. From there installation is usually completed in one day. Contact Tragar today for a no-obligation, free estimate.
