whole house water filtration systemIf you’re concerned about water quality and safety, a whole house water filtration system is convenient, cost-effective, and smart. Not sure if one is right for you? Let’s look at the 6 reasons why home water filtration systems are a smart choice.

1. Whole House Water Filters Save Money

Bottled water is very expensive. A 2011 survey by Consumer Reports found that buying just one bottle of water a day for a year costs $365 whereas filling a 16.9 -ounce bottle with tap water cost only 1.3 tenths of a cent each time or 48 cents if refilled once a day, every day for a year. Water filtration systems cost more upfront but are more cost-effective in the long term.

2. Bottled Water Can Be Contaminated.

If you think that bottled water is safer or purer than municipal tap water, think again. An EcoWatch report indicates that 64% of bottled water is really municipal tap water! Aquafina, Dasani and Nestle Pure Life are just a few of the brands using municipal tap water.
Worse, according to a study by the Environmental Working Group, “Bottled Water Quality Investigation: 10 Major Brands, 38 Pollutants: Bottled water contains disinfection byproducts, fertilizer residue, and pain medication”  and detailed in a downloadable report on the Food and Water Watch website, 10 major bottled water brands had 38 contaminants including fertilizer residue, ammonia, solvents, synthetic chemicals and more. So just because a label says “pure glacier water” or talks about “natural spring water” it’s probably not. Checking the water source is smart.

3. Reusable Water Bottles Are Safer Than Disposable Water Bottles

Bottled water containers frequently contain bisphenol A (BPA), which can leech into the water. BPA has been banned in baby bottles and sippy cups for kids and limited or banned in other containers because of health concerns. Among other concerns, BPA could contribute to Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), heart disease, birth defects, and cancer, as well as being a possible hormone disruptor. Reusable water bottles without BPA are a good alternative and fairly easy to find, whether they’re made of stainless steel, BPA-free plastic, glass, shatterproof glass, etc.

4. Water Filters Are Better For The Planet

Plastic is made from petroleum, which is a limited resource and is a major pollutant. Oil drilling can have a negative environmental impact, and despite increased efforts to encourage recycling, many disposable plastic water bottles end up in the trash. From there, they end up as litter or in rivers, streams, and even in the ocean. Dead whales have been found with stomachs full of indigestible plastic. Packaging and transporting bottled water increases its environmental footprint. Using a whole house water filter decreases the need for bottled water, lowering the environmental impact.

5. You Can Taste The Difference

Chlorine used to treat municipal water leaves a taste, as can natural minerals in a water supply. Home water filtration can create fresher tasting water while also removing harmful contaminants.

6. Home Water Filtration Is More Convenient

You’re not going to use bottled water to brush your teeth or boil pasta unless it’s an emergency and that’s the only water option. Yet if you’re concerned about contaminants the water used for activities like that adds up. Some experts even say that chlorine in bath or shower water has a drying effect on the skin. With whole house water filters, you’ll know that every time you turn on the faucet, you’re getting better water, regardless of how you’re using it.

Water Filtration Is the Smarter Solution

Why bother with trying to store cases of bottled water and pay a lot more for it without any real benefit? For safety, taste, convenience, and cost, home water filtration systems are the smart solution. Water filtration systems can be scaled to any size home for ultimate convenience and safety.
